Mike Prax
State Representative
Glenn “Mike” Prax was born in Sleepy Eye, Minnesota. He moved to Alaska with his parents in 1969 and currently lives in the Badger area of the Fairbanks North Star Borough. Prax graduated from AE Lathrop High School in 1974. His career experience includes working for his parents at the Star of the North Bakery throughout his high school years, as an operations and maintenance technician with Alyeska Pipeline Service Company, as an owner/manager of Prospector Outfitters, and as an insurance producer at Dick Randolph State Farm Insurance agency.
Prax’s record of public service spans decades. He served as a District Chair for the Republican Party in the 1980s and represented Fairbanks on the Fairbanks North Star Borough Assembly from 1997 to 2001.
In 2019, Governor Mike Dunleavy appointed Prax to the Alaska State House of Representatives to fill the vacancy left by former Representative Tammie Wilson. He is now serving his fourth full term in the House.
Prax currently serves on the House Health & Social Services, Community & Regional Affairs, and Resources Committees. During the 33rd Legislature, he chaired the House Health & Social Services Committee, where he advocated for efficient government, fiscal responsibility, and policies that empower individuals and families rather than expanding bureaucracy.
